Eric Martinot
Senior Research Director, Institute for Sustainable Energy Policies (ISEP)
Dr. Eric Martinot resides in Tokyo as senior research director with the Institute for Sustainable Energy Policies (ISEP). From 2005 to 2008 he was a visiting faculty at Tsinghua University in Beijing and remains an affiliate of the Tsinghua-BP Clean Energy Research and Education Center.
He also teaches at Victoria University of Wellington in New Zealand. He has been lead author of the REN21 Renewables Global Status Report since 2005. Prior to that, he was a senior energy/environment specialist with the World Bank in Washington DC and also lead author for the IPCC. He is author of 65 publications on renewable energy and energy efficiency and holds degrees from the University of California at Berkeley and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

I am the Head of Communications of GlashusEtt, the environmental information centre for Hammarby Sjo¨stad in Stockholm, is an exciting district where the City of Stockholm has imposed tough environmental requirements on buildings, technical installations and the traffic environment, from day one.
To attain these goals integrated planning, innovative solutions and new technologies have been necessary.
Prior to his current position I have held different management positions in both public and private organizations such as the Swedish Seamen's Mission, American Express, in charge of all the computers in a small company and project leader in a computer education firm.
He was also employed by the Stockholm Water Company within their personnel department.
Henriette So¨derberg
Urban Development Officer, City of Goteborg
Dr. Henriette So¨derberg works as a project manager for the city executive board in the City of Go¨teborg, Sweden since 2005.
She also hold a position at Chalmers University of Technology as Associate professor in Sustainable Urban Development. Expert fields are sustainable urban development, climate change, urban water, energy and waste.
At present she is e.g. project manager for development of local environmental quality objectives, with special emphasis on reduced climate impact.
Dr So¨derberg is also representing the city in the process of establishing an international centre for Urban Futures in Go¨teborg, funded by Mistra − foundation of strategic environmental research.
Julia Ahlrot

Mrs. Julia Ahlrot is a Master of Science in Aquatic and Environmental engineering and she works at the City of Va¨xjo¨, Sweden.
She has professional skills as project manager for infrastructure, waste and energy project.
At the moment Mrs. Ahlrot is the coordinator for an international project, duration 6 years.
The aims for the project are to promote energy and cost efficient ecobuildings and increase the production of renewable energy sources (RES).
Karen Ravenhill
Carbon Management Board Co-ordinator, Oxford City Council
Karen Ravenhill has worked for Oxford City Council for over 10 years.
Her expertise has been in the social housing field, however since 2008 she has become a key figure in the strategic direction and co-ordination of work from the City's Carbon Management Board.
Recently classed as an exemplar local authority by the Carbon Trust, the Council has set ambitious targets to reduce its overall carbon footprint and is a key player in promoting reductions in City-Wide emissions via local partnership work with citizens, communities and organizations.

Jan Beermann is participating in the "Public and Private Environmental Management" Master's program at the Free University Berlin in Germany.
He wrote his Master's thesis on "European Regions as Frontrunners for Local Renewable Energy Supply".
Jan Beermann was recently awarded a scholarship to take part in Nagoya University's Global Environmental Leaders Program (NUGELP) in Japan from October 2009 to March 2010.
Lily Riahi
Ambassador, International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA)
She has been a researcher in attendance at all the IRENA meetings since it's first Plenary Conference in April 2008 and resided in Berlin over the past year to complete her master's thesis research on IRENA at the Deutscher Bundestag (German Parliament).
Lily has also worked as project assistant for ICLEI - Governments for Local Sustainability, a researcher in the Office of German MP Hermann Scheer, and policy analyst for the Canadian Renewable Energy Alliance (CanREA).
She is a contributor in the Global Status Report on Local Renewable Energy Policies (2009), writes for Huffington Post and Renewable Energy World Energy Magazine, and is a steering committee member of the Alliance for Renewable Energy (ARE) working to advance Feed-in-Tariffs, also known as Renewable Energy Payments, in the USA and Canada.
Virginia Sonntag-O'Brien
Executive Secretary, Renewable Energy Policy Network for the 21st Century (REN21)
Virginia Sonntag-O'Brien is the Executive Secretary of REN21 - Renewable Energy Global Policy Network for the 21st Century. She also jointly coordinates the UNEP Sustainable Energy Finance Initiative, a platform providing financiers with the tools, support, and global network needed to conceive and manage investments in clean energy technologies.
She was formerly the Director of BASE, a UNEP Collaborating Centre in Basel, Switzerland that focuses on mobilising investment in energy efficiency and renewable energy. She began her work in the international energy and climate field heading the European Cities for Climate Protection Campaign, a program run by ICLEI.
Preben Maegaard
Chairperson of the Committee, the World Council for Renewable Energy (WCRE)
Preben Maegaard, born 1935, is a Danish renewable energy pioneer, author and expert.
Since the first oil crisis in 1974 he has worked locally, nationally and internationally at the organisational, political and technological level for the transition from fossil fuels to renewable energy.
From 1979 to 1984 he was chairman of the Danish Renewable Energy Association, OVE, www.orgve.dk and since 1991 vice-president of EUROSOLAR, the European Renewable Energy Association www.eurosolar.org ; in 2006 appointed senior vice-president.
When the World Wind Energy Association (WWEA), was founded in 2001 he became its first president www.wwindea.org, a position he held till 2005.
In 2001 he became a chairperson of the Committee of the World Council for Renewable Energy, (WCRE) www.wcre.org .
In May 2006 the World Wind Energy Institute, WWEI, was initiated in Kingston, Canada. Preben Maegaard was appointed the first president of the WWEI, see www.wwei.nu Since 1984 he has been director of the Nordic Folkecenter for Renewable Energy, www.folkecenter.net an institute for the development and implementation of renewable energies.
He has served on several Danish national governmental committees and councils, Preben Maegaard has been a conference director, organizer, speaker and/or participant of numerous national and international seminars, workshops and conferences, and chairman of the World Wind Energy Conferences.
He is author and/or co-author of numerous reports, books, articles and periodicals in Danish, English, German and Japanese within the field of renewable energy and sustainable development and has received a number of awards.
In June 2008 he received the World Wind Energy Award.
Chris Zijdeveld
Head of the Covenant of Mayors Office
Chris Zijdeveld was Board Member in the City of Schiedam from 1974 to 1994. Responsible for building, traffic, environment and energy. Had an impact in changing the city into a more sustainable one and pioneered energy conscious building in the Netherlands. In Schiedam in those years more than 6000 houses with passive solar principles were built.
Founded his own consultancy in 1994 and was involved in many interesting project. Founded the business unit for Renewable Energy in the Built Environment at the Dutch Energy Research Institute (ECN − Petten). Was mediator in bringing parties together for "Stad van de zon" (city of the sun). Was and is chairman in different organizations for promotion of energy conscious products: ventilation systems with air to air heat exchangers, low temperature heating, passive building, heat pumps.
Was president of the Dutch section of Friends of the Earth. Is still political active as chairman of the working group on Energy, Environment and Economy (LME) in the Dutch PvdA (Labour Party).
Joseph M. Wladkowski
Project Deputy of ICLEI - Local Governments for Sustainability
Joseph began working for ICLEI − Local Governments for Sustainability in February 2009, where his work is focused on several projects related to Local Renewables, including the Initiative & Model Communities Network, the soon-to-be-released Web Portal and the Freiburg conference series.
Joseph obtained his M.Sc. in Environmental Governance from the University of Freiburg, Germany. Prior to working at ICLEI, Joseph worked for the London Sustainability Exchange. Aside from his work at ICLEI, he enjoys lecturing on European sustainability policy for the IES Study Abroad programme in Freiburg.
Kristina Dely
Head of the Covenant of Mayors Office
Kristina Dely has been heading the Covenant of Mayors Office since its establishment in January 2009. The office − composed of 5 major European network of local-authorities − co-ordinates the Covenant of Mayors (www.eumayors.eu) an initiative by the European Commission, whereby more than 850 local authorities have committed to reduce their CO2 emissions by more than 20% by 2020. Formerly, Kristina was in charge of European Affairs of Energie-Cite's (www.energie-cites.eu), a European association representing 1000 local authorities from 30 countries.
Kristina holds a Masters degree in economy and environmental management from Budapest University of Economics and the Ecole de Management de Lyon.
Tetusya Iida
Executive Director, Institute for Sustainable Energy Policies (ISEP)
Previously held positions at a major steel manufacturer, R&D of nuclear power at an electricity-related organization, followed by assuming the position of representative of a non-profit research institute.
Presides in numerous non-profit environmental organizations and is active as a scientist (Lund University, Environmental and Energy Systems Studies).
Focusing on individuals belonging to regions, minorities and the general public, proactively speaks out to on the society for science and technology studies/environmental sociology/urban environmental management in a wide variety of fields, including energy policy decision processes, social development and social receptivity, electrical power energy policies, and symbiotic communities.
Teruyuki Ohno
Director General for Climate Strategy, Bureau of Environment, Tokyo Metropolitan Government
Mr. Teruyuki Ono is a director of Environmental Bureau of the Tokyo Metropolitan Government who is in charge of global environment.
He started his career at Tokyo Metropolitan Government in 1979.
Before starting to get involved in environmental administration in 1998, he worked at Bureau of Sewerage, Bureau of Port and Harbor, Bureau of City Planning, Policy Promotion Division and etc.
After supervising the planning and implementation of the "No Diesel Cars" campaign, he then presided over climate change countermeasures.
He assumed the current position in July 2009. At present, he is working towards the preparation for implementation of Cap-and-Trade system, such as implementing climate change countermeasure policies and increasing solar panel usage, which was introduced due to the revision of Environmental Preservation Regulation of Tokyo Metropolitan Government in June 2008.

Ikuo Sugimoto
Representative, Citizens Environmental Foundation
Mr. Ikuo Sugimoto was born in Osaka in 1953, graduated from Kyoto University Department of Agriculture, specializing in Agricultural Chemistry, lives in Kyoto and works as a representative of Nonprofit Organization Citizens Environmental Foundation. He has been leading the "Green Consumer Guide" activities by planning and publishing the first guide book about eco-friendly shopping in Japan and etc. He has been holding "Japan's Eco City Contest" jointly with thirteen local NPOs in Japan for ten years and promoting various projects to realize sustainable society by establishing partnerships with local governments carrying out one of the most progressive activities to preserve the environment.
In third Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change held in Kyoto, he was a secretary-general of KIKO Forum, a host NPO, and was in charge of promotion of the activities, giving lectures across the country and creation of brochure and study materials.
He wrote "Green Consumer: Shopping Guide to Make the World Eco-Friendly" from Showa-do, planned, wrote and edited "Eco City Contest: Seven Suggestions to Change Japan from the Local Level" from Gakugei-Shuppan, and jointly wrote "Visiting Eco Cities around the World" from Iwanami-Junior-Shinsho.
He is also working as a part-time professor at Yamaguchi Prefecture University, executive director of Green Purchasing Network, commissioner of NPO KES Environmental Organization, board member of NPO Japan Council on the UN Decade of Education for Sustainable Development, councillor of Social Welfare Corporation Osaka Voluntary Action Center, etc.
Shinichiro Tanaka
Assistant to Director of the Climate Change Policy Headquaters, Yokohama City
Mr. Tanaka was born in 1973, obtained a Ph. D. in Political Science at Meiji University Graduate School of Political Science and Economics, and is working as a policy researcher for Climate Change Policy Headquarters of Yokohoma Municipal government at present.
Before assuming the current position, he worked as a secretary in charge of policy for a member of the House of Councillors, full time adjunct at Meiji University of Political Science and Economics and part time professor at J. F. Obilin University.
In Yokohama Municipal Government, he is in charge of the preparation for the International Conference on Promoting the Low Carbon Cities 2009 after supervising the planning of the revision and creation of regulations on an environmental model city as well as global warming countermeasure.
Hidefumi Kurasaka

In 1996, became an assistant professor in Department of Law and Economics in Chiba University and became a professor in 2008.
He specializes in Environmental Economics and Environment Policies.
He is the author of the "Environment Policies Second Edition" published by Shinzansha, "Rethink the Environment and Economy" published by Nakanishiya Shuppan, "Ecological Economics" by Chikuma Sinsho, "More Environment Protection Develops Economy" by Asahi Sensho.

Junichi Fujino
A senior researcher in the Climate Policy Assignment Section, Center for Global Environmental Research (CGER) at the National Institute for Environmental Studies
He is an energy-environment-economy modeler to analyze global GHG emissions scenarios and energy system. He has fully engaged on “Japan Low-Carbon Society Scenario Project” during FY 2004 to FY2008 and supported Japan-UK joint research project on Low-Carbon Society to deliver our research outputs for G8 Japan, UNFCCC, and so on. And he has involved in the development of the Asia-Pacific Integrated Model (AIM) to estimate climate change impact and to assess policy options for stabilizing global climate since 2000. Recently he has engaged on “Low-Carbon Asia Scenario Project” during FY 2009 to FY 2013 and traveling several Asian countries and cities.
He received his B.S./M.S and Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Tokyo, Japan. He has been working in current position since April 2000. He is visiting Associate professor, Japan Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (JAIST), adjunct instructor, Tokyo University of Science, and IGES fellow.
Mika Ohbayashi
Director, Office Ecologist
Mika Ohbayashi is Director at Office Ecologist since July 2009. Before joining the organization, she worked for the UKFCO at the British Embassy to Japan, as Advisor on Climate Change Projects and Policies for one year.
She is one of founders of Institute for Sustainable Energy Policies (ISEP), and served as Deputy Director for 8 years since its establishment in 2000.
ISEP is Japan based think-tank, and was to be established an independent scientific energy institute in Japan, on energy and environmental issues.
She started her carrier in the energy fields by joining Citizens' Nuclear Information Center in 1992, after some years work experience.
There, she was in charge of energy/climate change issues and Asian nuclear policies.
She coordinated many international conferences, scientific study projects, takes leadership to team up various networks including national parliamentarians and local authorities, domestically and internationally to improve sustainable energy society.
She also served as SC member for REN21 and World Council for Renewable Energy from 2006 to 2008just before joining the UK government.
